Prerequisite: 1. You must be a member of a CERT, Fire or EMS agency. 2. You will not be able to attend If you are not healthy enough to perform strenuous activities (carrying a backpack) on rough hilly terrain and be outdoors exposed to the elements for extended periods of time, and do not have appropriate winter clothing & footwear & flashlight to participate in the outdoor component of the course!
The course is designed to provide basic knowledge concerning the general responsibilities, skills, abilities, and the equipment needed by persons who would be participating in a wilderness search or rescue mission. The class will be primarily hands-on outdoor scenarios to reinforce key SAR concepts for both day and night operations. Participants who complete this course will be prepared to become a member of a SAR team and be capable of passing the SARTECH III certification exam.
PPE/Equipment needed for class
• Components of a SAR kit that they already own
• Portable stove or fire starting kit to heat water
• GPS devices or phone with GPS apps and a battery to charge your phone in the field
